MESHNETICS ZIGBEE MODULES DEMOSTRATED AT THE LEADING WIRELESS EXPO IN JAPAN

19.07.2007

Tokyo, Japan – July 19, 2007 – At the Expo Comm Wireless Japan exhibition, Atmel demonstrated MeshNetics ZigBit™ IEEE802.15.4/ZigBee modules, based on Atmel’s AVR® Z-Link® chipsets, and a live ZigBee network on Atmel RZ demo boards, running MeshNetics networking software. Visitors at the Atmel’s stand were impressed by the ultra small size of the ZigBit modules, and a user-friendly interface of Atmel’s demo boards.

“By packaging AVR Z-Link chipsets into compact modules and bundling them with ZigBee mesh networking software, MeshNetics helps OEMs and system integrators, who want to use Atmel’s best-of-breed hardware, get wireless products to the market fast and cost efficiently,” commented Mr. Thomas Lerm, Director of EMEA Operations, MeshNetics. “Additionally, the inherent flexibility of the MeshNetics product design and the engineering prowess of the team, allows MeshNetics to offer customized solutions, tailored to our customer’s specific needs.

The eZeeNet is a robust IEEE802.15.4/ZigBee software stack which enables Atmel’s RCB boards to perform as nodes in a self-healing, self-organizing mesh network. It runs on all AVR-based platforms, including MeshNetics' own ZigBit OEM Module and MeshBean development board, as well as Atmel's RF Accessory (RZ502) and Demonstration (RZ200) Kits.

The ZigBit modules are based on the combination of Atmel’s ATmega 1281 microcontroller and AT86RF230 radio. Atmel’s AT86RF230 is a low-power, high-sensitivity 2.4 GHz transceiver. The -101dB receive sensitivity and 3 dB transmit power give it the highest link budget of any 802.15.4 radio on the market today. Thanks to its outperforming link budget the ZigBit modules have line-of-site range up to 2.8 times that of competitors, reducing the total number of nodes required in the network and cutting overall 802.15.4/ZigBee system cost. Tests showed that unamplified ZigBit modules achieve a line-of-site range of over 1,000m (3,280 ft.)
